The drive out on Thursday night was short and uneventful, but I was damn tired by the time we got there. AmeRock1 had to go to breakfast with Jack Johnson on Friday morning so instead of driving in on Friday, we went the night before. During the drive, Jim Ladd had Roger Waters on his KLOS show and the interview was good for the drive. KLOS almost reaches to Palm Springs…strong signal.

Indian Wells Resort Sucks. Luxury Accomodations my ass.

Indian Wells Resort sucks monkey dicks. Room service was closed when I got there at 10:30pm and the Lodgenet generic tv remote wouldn’t allow me to switch to the aux input (not even with my personal universal remote…geek shit). I suppose I could’ve hit the La Quinta Radioshack for a coaxial adapter, but due to lack of time I sacrificed a Call of Duty 4 double point weekend on the new map packs because the resort blows. The room smelled, the workers were dumb, café Loren was garbage, and all of the worker’s moms have diseases. Do not ever stay there.

Friday Coachella was cool. I got ripped in the back, met the awesome Huell Howser, laughed, and saw tons of people. Highlights include seeing Igoe, Dj Carbo, Zoe, and Annerino.

Indian Wells Resort Sucks

Prince killed it. Cam phone pic.

Saturday morning I skated Palm Springs skatepark with Silva and Chad from Laguna Nigel. Good sesh. Saturday Coachella was cool . I missed MGMT, posted in the back, caught Kraftwerk, heard the main stage bands (Portishead sounded lofi and in good form), met people, and saw the same people from the day before. To be honest, the entire day was spent waiting around for Prince. I’ve seen Prince before and he rocks, but the word on the street was that this was going to be his best show ever so the hype machine was in full effect. When the time neared for the show, it was either wade through 70k people or figure out an alternative way to peep the show. The alternative was selected and we took in the show standing on the stage next to Portishead, Sean Penn, and Everlast. The show was amazing. Thank you to all involved in hooking it up.

Indian Wells Resort Sucks

Palm Springs has a nice park. Nude Bowl replica, flow area, and combi.

Sunday morning I hit the skatepark again with the same crew for another good sesh. It was like 95 degrees outside, but everyone shredded and it was fun. After the sesh it was back to LA for a swim in the pool and to catch a few hours of double point weekend. That’s my Coachella Recap.

GTA 4 is out tonight @ midnight. Word the fuck up.

peoplescourt

When I’m out and people ask me “What are you doing these days?”, I have a few stock answers to choose from, but more and more, I’m going to my number one choice of “just watching People’s Court”. Why? I think it’s a quick answer to summarize a portion of my day that really does exist while sufficiently answering a standard small talk question. After all, I know for a fact that certain people are more concerned with comparing themselves to me or searching for something to fuel a condescending remark…so my answer helps play into whatever they were searching for in the first place. Give the people what they want, right?

On the flip side, if my aces want to know what I’m doing, I’ll give them the same answer sometimes as a way to explain that I’m just posted up working on some beats, writing, or eating. I guess to sum it up, my answers are generally based on the truth but delivered in a fashion that allows me to see where a person’s head is at by their reaction. I like to watch you watch me.

So, for all the people out there that are genuinely concerned with what I’m doing…”I’m just watching People’s Court”. For all of you who could care less about what I’m doing…just know that “I’m just watching People’s Court” regardless of your existence. This blog post blows.

P.S. If you respond in person with “Doug Llewelyn 4 Life!” after hearing me say “just watchin People’s Court”, I’ll know you read this and present you with a crisp $10 bill.

slystonelatimes

Check out this article by Los Angeles Times Staff Writer By Geoff Boucher. It’s a good read:

It’s hard to pin down the facts with Stone, and it wasn’t made easier by the fact that he did a chunk of this interview with his hands on a keyboard and speaking into a vocoder synthesizer that turned his words into trippy music — it was like carrying on a conversation with Disneyland’s Main Street Electrical Parade. “Can you understand me? Can . . . you . . . understand me? That’s goooooood.”

“Everybody I saw was full of peace, it was a spirit there that was just peaceful and cool,” Stone said. “The thing I really remember is I went to whatever was the main street there and I got a bologna sandwich. And it was so hot. And I never open a sandwich to look what’s going on, but somehow I thought that time that I would do that. Because it was hot and I didn’t think bologna sandwiches were hot. And I opened it and there were people running across the meat. And, I thought, whoa.”

“If there is anyone I have influenced who wants me to help them record, I’m willing to do it. I want to go in the studio yesterday and get started. The reason I say that I want to hear from people is that I was influenced to stay underground for so long. I had advice that there was some kind of rewarding effect to it. Now I want to be over ground. I want to be above ground. I don’t want to be in the ground.

According to my sources (damn! I just said that shit like a real journalist), Sly is supposed to be on the stage for the entire HOB Sunset show this weekend. After travelling to HOB Anaheim last year for a glimpse of Sly, I really wish I could be in the house for this show but my schedule will not permit it. I will be all over the reviews the next day.

Tear it up Sly, tear it up.

“After we drank a fifth of hen, Destroy bet me $100 he could drink another by himself in 6 minutes. He almost made it, finished the bottle, and then we went to a party for more” —Paranorm

Headcrack.com and Paranorm.com had a good run. From 2002 to 2008 we displayed 2,533,435 pages while 483,032 satisfied customers viewed the forums. During this time period, OMNIGOD picked up group members, lost group members. received death threats, went to jail, got out of jail, went to court, went to rehab, had a high speed police chase, worked corporate jobs, gave away 100+ gigs in free mp3s, supported real underground shit like Dj Ready Cee & Dj Mixx, and posted some pretty funny pics. Yeah, the buddy icons and talkbox article (which has been salvaged because I still love the talkbox) brought in a decent amount of traffic, but the stats show that once the people came, they stuck around. Thanks to everyone who supported the sites (especially Small J). The legacy will be carried on here at spithate.com.

djstrictnineparanorm2007

I’m finding all sorts of stuff as I attempt to put together a comprehensive collection / catalog. Tons of pictures. Tons of songs. Tons of beats. The photos above are from a 2007 trip I took to Dj Strictnine’s Ism Labs in South Bend, IN. We started recording there as kids back in 1986 and the room is still being used to record in to this day. I think every rapper in the region has come to record there….it definitely smells like it.

Mp3 Throwbacks of the day (Mid 90s):

Dj Strictnine – 4 Track Stretch (8 second sampler + 4 track + Numark Turntable) Dj Strictnine – 4 Track Stretch (8 second sampler + 4 track + Numark Turntable) [Mp3]

DJ Strictnine – Fantastic Fly MCs DJ Strictnine – Fantastic Fly MCs [Mp3]
